ISC09 reports record attendee and exhibitor numbers

The 2009 International Supercomputing Conference reported 1,675 attendees and 120 exhibitors at the event in Hamburg earlier this month.

At a special reception in Hamburg's historic stock exchange, Bernd Reinert, State Secretary, Ministry of Science and Research of the Free & Hanseatic City of Hamburg, noted that this gate opens both ways and that Hamburg was proud to host many of the world's leading supercomputing experts.

ISC's dramatic growth over the past five years, with attendance increasing fourfold since 2004, has led to the meeting outgrowing facilities in Heidelberg and then Dresden, necessitating the move to Hamburg.

'We faced a number of uncertainties this year, from moving to a new city to a global economic crisis, but these factors did not come into play,' said Professor Hans Meuer of the University of Mannheim, General Chair of ISC. 'As a number of attendees told me this week, in this fast-changing arena you need to keep informed and ISC is the place to get the latest information from researchers, vendors and manufacturers.'

ISC10, the 25th anniversary of the conference, will be held 1-4 June 2010, in the Congress Center Hamburg.
