Resolver One 1.8

Resolver Systems has launched Resolver One 1.8, an upgraded version of its advanced programmable spreadsheet.

A powerful spreadsheet that kicks in where Microsoft Excel reaches its limitations, Resolver One delivers the number-crunching, pattern matching and quantitative analysis capabilities needed for complex financial modelling and research applications, but is simple enough for use by typical office staff as well as 'experts' who are already well-versed in different spreadsheets.

Unlike 'traditional' spreadsheets, which try to offer ease of use by hiding their 'programmable' elements behind cells containing formulae, Resolver One enables the user to harness these components directly to create new and re-use existing calculations and formulas more easily.

While spreadsheets created in Microsoft Excel can only be extended using Visual Basic, Resolver One is programmable in Python, a modern object-oriented language. Resolver One allows complicated formulae to be extended with additional Python code and functions, while it is compatible with existing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, allowing import of existing data and formulae or their export as Excel files for sharing.

Resolver One, being based on IronPython, is compatible with the Microsoft. NET framework, enabling IT departments to utilise existing their software investments. Pre-built .NET components can be loaded into Resolver One, so companies can integrate real-time financial data news feeds, sales and customer information into spreadsheet-based company processes.

In addition, through the Ironclad open source project, Resolver One can import and use extensions that were written for the original non-.NET version of the Python language, bringing the best ideas from both Microsoft .NET and the Open Source Python community together for use in the same spreadsheet.
