University develops HPC cluster

The University of Surrey is to install a high performance computing cluster to provide more computationally intensive research in multimedia security, intelligent and adaptive systems and the financial services industry.

The cluster will enable more complex research on larger data sets to ensure greater accuracy and reliability of results.

The university has already partnered with financial analysis company CDO2 in the first of many Knowledge Transfer Partnerships to improve CDO2’s pricing and risk analysis software.

‘We are gaining leading-edge server and storage capability with access to the appropriate expertise for these systems,’ said Dr Lee Gillam, research fellow, University of Surrey. ‘The HPCC technology will enable us to undertake further and deeper scientific and business-oriented research, benefiting real-world applications.’
