New collaboration helps the oil industry harness HPC

Share this on social media:

Mercury Computer Systems and Nvidia are to collaborate to provide oil exploration and production developers with a comprehensive solution for simultaneous computation and visualisation of huge 3D seismic data sets.

Mercury will integrate Nvidia’s Tesla GPU compute power inside the Open Inventor by Mercury Computer Systems 3D development toolkit for highly demanding computing tasks in the data analysis, interpretation, and simulation E&P workflows.

During Supercomputing 2007 in Reno, NV, Mercury showed a prototype application developed with Ocean. The application development framework extends the Schlumberger Petrel seismic-to-simulation software that demonstrates seamless integration between high-performance computing and high-quality visualisation for huge 3D seismic data sets.
