Distribution and development agreement for informatics products

Accelrys and Agilent Technologies have entered into an agreement to distribute each other’s informatics products. The agreement will mean that products from both companies can be more easily integrated, and it could affect the future development of their software.

Accelrys will resell the OpenLAB enterprise content manager, the Kalabie ELN and the GeneSpring gene expression software from Agilent. In return, Agilent will sell the Accord cheminformatics software and Pipeline Pilot Scientific Operating Platform from Accelrys.

‘Our marketplaces don’t overlap,’ William Taylor, the vice president of corporate development and marketing at Accelrys, told scientific-somputing.com. ‘Accelrys specialises in R&D, while Agilent specialises in quality control and manufacturing, but there is a need for each other’s tech in these areas.’

The two companies have collaborated for some time now, but this is the first time they have reached a formal agreement. It means that customers can now buy all their informatics products from one vendor, which should ease the customer support and implementation of the systems.

Taylor says the two companies will now work with customers to see how the different product lines can develop together.
