Record number of patents documented

Chemical Abstracts Service indexed and added more than a million document records during 2006 – a record achievement for the chemistry database.

The results also show an increase in the number of publications originating from Asia, with 17.6 and 16.6 per cent from China and Japan respectively. The US still leads with 19.4 per cent of the documents originating from America.

The results came on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the organisation. It took 30 years for CAS to publish its first million abstracts, illustrating the rapid pace of research occurring worldwide.
