MSC creates Italian partnership to accelerate Aeronautical design

MSC Software has announced a partnership with the Campania Region Technological Aerospace District to launch the SIMULAB Project (Simulation Laboratory for the Development of Aeronautical Programs). MSC will join efforts with DAC (Campania Aerospace Cluster), FormitSixtema, and CIRA (an Italian aerospace research centre) to accelerate the development of companies involved in the Italian Aerospace industry.

The SIMULAB project is designed to promote cooperative technological transfer between aeronautical companies. The programme’s purpose is to drive innovation, reduce costs and improve the quality of new products. MSC hopes that the platform will boost potential synergies between DAC companies collaborating on design and engineering projects by providing them with simulation technologies to anticipate potential problems from the earliest stages of design.

This programme will take shape as a number of different tools and services including A Virtual Laboratory; an environment for the management of projects and related data; an e-learning platform to organise the technical staff training while minimising costs and interference with other work activities; and a computer-based tool that integrates the management aspects with the operational ones to conduct a program of research/development.

The virtual laboratory will be setup to disseminate the methodologies and knowledge in various aspects of aviation engineering including best practices of standardised methods and procedures, supporting technologies, knowledge, and experience.

Through the SIMULAB platform, MSC Software will deliver SimManager to manage the complete simulation data pedigree and process audit trail; MSC Apex, MSC’s simulation environment; and MSC Nastran, its structural analysis solution used by engineers for multidisciplinary analysis of complex aerospace systems.

MSC Apex was chosen because of its ease of use and modelling technology that allows users to create Finite Element Model (FEM) models. This software will make it easier for aerospace engineers participating in the program to learn and run simulations faster and at less cost.
