NCSA and Exxon Mobil set a new record for oil and gas simulation

A collaboration between the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), and ExxonMobil has set a new record for the number of processors used for an oil and gas reservoir simulation. The teams managed to increase the number of processor working on this simulation to 716,800, around four times the previous record.

£10 million Intelligent Healthcare Technologies research to support self-management of chronic conditions

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is funding eight new research projects that will help people self-manage chronic conditions, such as COPD and diabetes, at home while linked to support from carers and clinicians – funded through a 10 million pound investment.

The research will take place at seven UK universities; involve over 30 partners from industry, charities and the public sector who will add contributions worth over three quarters of a million pounds.

Ansys, a provider of engineering simulation technology, has announced the release of its SeaScape architecture to help engineers accelerate the optimisation of designs using a combination of elastic computation, machine learning, big data analytics and simulation technology
