Allotrope Foundation and Osthus to develop open framework for laboratory data

Allotrope Foundation has partnered with Osthus to develop its open framework for laboratory data. Following the deal, Osthus will provide consulting services to Allotrope, as well as the design, coding and implementation of the framework.

Allotrope Foundation is an international, not-for-profit consortium of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies that is dedicated to developing an innovative, open Framework (metadata dictionaries, data standards, and class libraries) for managing analytical data throughout its lifecycle. This effort is fully funded by the members of Allotrope and is iteratively delivering a novel Framework and proof-of-concept applications built using the Framework. According to the consortium, the goal is not to ‘reinvent the wheel’, but to adopt existing or emerging standards where possible, and drive their adoption through software that instantiates them.

‘During the comprehensive and rigorous RFP process, Osthus kept impressing us with their innovative ideas and intelligent solutions for realising the concept of Allotrope's framework,’ said Gordon Hansen, vice president, Analytical Development at Boehringer Ingelheim, and chair of the  Board of Directors at Allotrope. ‘We are excited about the partnership with Osthus and working together to build the foundation for the intelligent analytical laboratory.’

Dr Torsten Osthus, president of Osthus Inc., and managing director of Osthus GmbH, added: ‘We look forward to working with Allotrope's innovative and highly motivated members to create a common framework that will move life science companies and their vendors forward by innovating faster and more cost-effectively, while complying with government requirements more easily.

‘Osthus is all about transforming research complexity into decision-making knowledge and process efficiency. Allotrope's framework is an important stepping-stone designed to facilitate that. We are proud to be part of this project.’
