DataDirect Networks (DDN) has introduced a big data storage platform – the SFA12KX. DDN has introduced two new models of its storage fusion architecture (SFA) technology, the SFA12KX and the SFA12KXE.

The SFA12KX features advanced processor technology and an optimised OS to deliver performance of up to 48GB/s and 1.5 million IOPS per appliance.

The other appliance, the SFA12KXE, uses DDNTM In-Storage Processing technology to power DDN’s EXAScaler and GRIDScaler parallel file systems, as well as customer applications running in the storage array. The SFA12KXE delivers up to 23GB/s of system performance, while eliminating the need for external servers and storage.

The DDN SFX systems offer new features which include application-aware flash caching, real-time I/O and Storage Fusion Fabric technology. The SFA12KX appliances use the latest generation of Intel Ivy Bridge family of processors and an optimised operating system. This architecture enables customers to build file storage systems that scale to 1TB/s and beyond with as little as 21 arrays.

The DDN SFA12KXE appliance will be available in Q4 2013 and the SFA12KX is scheduled for general availability in early 2014.
