Eurotech, a provider of embedded computing and supercomputing, introduced at the International  Supercomputer Conference (ISC) in Leipzig the new version of the Aurora Tigon supercomputers, powered by the coprocessors  Intel Xeon Phi 5120D.

The combination of Eurotech design, conceived to achieve the maximum computing power with the lowest possible consumption, with the high efficiency obtained thanks to the Intel Xeon E5 processors and Intel Xeon Phi 5120D coprocessors, has enabled the introduction of one of the most energy-efficient supercomputers in the market. Early measurements performed on the system suggest values ‚Äč‚Äčaround three Gflops / Watt.

'These high energy-efficiency levels are possible thanks to the design of Eurotech very attentive to the energy aspects and the advanced technology of Intel components, such as Intel Xeon E5 processors and second generation Intel Xeon Phi accelerators,' says Giampietro Tecchiolli, Eurotech CTO.

'The Aurora direct liquid cooling system helps avoiding the use of air conditioning in warmer climates and "free cooling", a technique until now possible only with relatively low outdoor  temperatures.'
