Silicon Mechanics

Silicon Mechanics, a manufacturer of rackmount servers, storage and  computing hardware, now offers AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors, which deliver superior performance and scalability for virtualised server platforms central to private and public cloud deployments, big data systems, and high-performance computing clusters.

The AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors provide up to 3.5 GHz base frequency and up to 3.8 GHz using AMD Turbo CORE technology for a performance boost when demanded by specific applications. Up to 16 cores per socket are available for scaling on thread-intensive environments. AMD-P power management features maximise performance per watt across workloads while giving IT managers more control over their data centre power profiles.

The new AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors achieve up to 24 per cent higher performance than the earlier AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors in SPECjbb2005, a key server benchmark used to evaluate Java performance, a critical element for next-generation data-centres’ software ecosystem. Per-watt performance is as much as 37 per cent higher than the prior generation.

'Our AMD Opteron 6300 Series processors offer enterprises significant performance gains, high energy-efficiency, and cost-effectiveness,' said John Williams, vice president, server marketing and business development for AMD.
