NextComputing has produced a new small-footprint desk-side workstation, called the Nucleus, for engineers, animators, designers, or anyone using high-end professional applications looking for an alternative to giant, power-hungry tower workstations.

Typical workstations, while designed for top-of-the-line performance, are not designed for limited space or ease of transport. However, engineers and other power users are often drawn to the more compact and space-saving systems, such as mini towers, used by their office colleagues, although these are considerably less capable than their larger cousins. Users then must decide if they can live with the limited performance of the smaller system or opt for the larger traditional systems which are often twice the size and weight.

The Nucleus workstation provides a high-performance workstation in a small form-factor to meet the needs of professional engineers and designers. It is designed to run demanding applications such as Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks, CATIA or 3DVIA, Autodesk Inventor, Maya, 3ds Max, and others, as well as and other popular 3D CAD, DCC, and PLM solutions.

The workstation is available in three models, all featuring Intel processors:

  • T5520 - Dual-socket Intel Xeon 5600 series processors, offering up to 12 cores, 24 threads of processing, and up to 48GB RAM

  • AC206 - Single-socket 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 or Intel Xeon quad-core processor and up to 32GB RAM

  • AX58C - Single-socket Intel Xeon 5600 series or 1st Generation Intel Core i7 quad-core or six-core processor and up to 24GB RAM

All of them offer a large selection of ISV certified Nvidia Quadro and AMD FirePro professional graphics.
