Fernando Alonso of the Renault F1 Team won his second successive FIA Formula One Drivers' World Championship, thanks in part to an excellent engine designed using CD-adapco's computational fluid dynamics software.
CD-adapco has been a supplier of advanced CAE software to the Renault F1 Team since its inception in 2001. The RS26 engine, and R26 chassis are designed with the STAR-CD and STAR-CCM+. Of the points awarded during the 2006 season, incredibly almost 70 per cent have been awarded to teams that use STAR-CD or STAR-CCM+ for aerodynamic or engine simulation.
Flavio Briatore, managing director of the Renault F1 Team, is appreciative of CD-adapco's contribution: 'The support that CD-adapco has provided has played a key role in the package and I wish to thank them on behalf of everyone at the team for your valued contribution in helping us to secure successive Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships.’
